The SUNY New Paltz Baseball team will begin their first game action on February 22nd at Silver Lake Park, in Purchase New York against Baruch College. After the game they will begin their journey to Virginia, where they will play against Hampden-Sydney and Rutgers-Camden on that Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
The Hawks have been training since February 4th and are eagre to get their season underway. The Hawks will face a tough schedule this year facing the number nine ranked team in the nation, Salisbury University, March 3rd and 4th in Maryland, the number four ranked team SUNY Cortland March 22nd and 23rd, and other nationally mentioned teams, SUNY Old Westbury, William Patterson University, Ithaca College, and SUNY Brockport. "With a tough in region games this year on the schedule, it is going to show how good we are and what we are made of," says Junior Pitcher Mike Pastorino, "We are definitely going to be battle tested within the first couple weeks of the season and see if we have what it takes to compete with the top teams in the nation."
The Hawks will look to improve on their season last year after finishing in last place. The Hawks started off strong, but lost 11 out of their final 14 games going 3-11. March 22nd will be the Hawks first home game of the season as well as their conference opener against SUNYAC rival Cortland.
"After a down year and not making the playoffs last year, it gives us more motivation to get back to becoming a championship level caliber team," says Captain Dave Lostaglio. With ten seniors returning for their last season and five All-Conference Players returning the Hawks look to gear up for a championship run that none of them will ever forget.
